When driving through deep ruts or over rocks you always have the risk of damaging the bottom of your vehicle. For older Land Rover models, there is a variety of protection available. For a relatively new model as the Discovery 3, this isn't the case. I've been looking for this from the beginning when I just owned my car, and there wasn't much to choose from back then.
Now, there starts to be some choice in what's available. Time for an overview of the underbody protection for a Land Rover Discovery 3.
ASFIR has fairly complete ground protection in 6mm aluminum. I've found some pictures of their stuff at TBR and also from a Discovery 3 owner. Some people think it's not strong enough.
Rasta 4x4 has a full underbody protection set. Apparently, this is the producer of the underbody protection sold by Matzker, Bearmach and Outback.
Also very interesting are the Lower Door Guards, to replace the factory fitted plastic guards, that are scratched and scraped very easily.

Also new to me are the Radiator protection covers. Thanks to David for the tip and to the information received from Life from Rasta.
The Rasta kit can be bought from Matzker

Although I couldn't find it on their website Bearmach also sells the Rasta underbody protection. I did see an advertisement of them on the backcover of the Land Rover Owner International magazine of February 2007.
Outback Import also sell the stuff from Rasta. The Land Magazine of January-February 2007 has an article on the Discovery 3 of Geoland, a Belgian Land Rover specialist that explains it has an Outback Import underbody protection.
Mantec only makes front protection (so it only protects the front side: the radiator and the engine, that's why it's also called a 'sump guard').
Land Rover sells the version (made by Mantec) that can be combined with a winch, Mantec themselves only sell the non-winch version.
I would like to buy one of these sets, but my wife doesn't allow me to at this time (okay, it is quite expensive). I should try to do some more lobbying...
However, if I would by underbody protection now, I would go for the set of Rasta (including the Radiator protection and the sill protection plate).
If you have more information on Discovery 3 underbody protection, please let me know or leave a comment, so I can update this list.

nice tips about the Rasta 4x4 products
cheap cars
I think that Paul do not need to worry about the price now, you know with this world wide economic risis many expensive goods have become more accessible for ordinary people as companies try to sell out all they have to start new competible in new conditions products, the same is about car market...
I think that there is one
I think that there is one way to resolve your problem. To persuade your wife to buy one of these sets, I don't think that it is very expensive. And my advice is "don't do experiments with your car".
Where from did you get all
Where from did you get all this information? I suppose you've spent so many hours searching for every piece of the note... I really appreciate the work you've done in here. I like to learn about things I'm interested in when they are compared to others of the same category, this helps to take ther ight decision.
May be protection systen of
May be protection systen of ASFIR is not the safest one, but I heard a lot that amnog many others it can be considered quite reliable, to the extend lie some 85 percnet. I think it's not so bad, at lest if there is no other choice or possibility, it's better to use ASFIR.
I've always wanted a land
I've always wanted a land rover, but its outside my budget. Any car that is comparable to it for a cheaper price?
Rock Sliders
Rover Specialties makes the best rock sliders, but they are expensive. Much more protection than the simple "sill protectors" which don't even go all the way to the frame. www.offroving.com is the exclusive distributor. I have the "Stage II" model with the standoffs tubes, and I can vouch for their toughness. Here's a link to some pics on my rig.

Underbody Protection Questions
Hi, I phoned US some months ago, and asked them about prices for your equipment. Since it is so good exchange rate against USD now it is very interesting to buy from US. The guy I was talking with there said he should ask some one from Israel to phone me, and I gave him my number, but has never heard anything since.
So if you could give me the price including shipping cost from Israel it would have been nice?
Also wondering about how the reaction from my dealer who is servicing my Disco 3. Do they need to take apart much more when changing oil etc.?
Thanks!
PS! Mostly interested in the protection package.
Best regards Ole Johnny Prestbakken
