Joost first test
Thanks Litrik for the invite to Joost, a peer-to-peer internet based program that allows you to see programs (including advertisements) on demand, on your PC. Initially it didn’t work on my Windows Vista system, but thanks to an FAQ about Joost on Vista I found I had to modify the shortcut so that Joost runs as administrator.
I like the concept of Joost, and do believe in a more social internet-based TV experience. But I’m not too impressed by the user interface or the way it’s been implemented. Of course, it is still a beta version, but it took me some time to find out where the menu’s are, how to change from full screen to a window etc. I can’t see the widpublic using it yet. It seems to be made by techies for techies, but I’m sure it will improve…
And as you can expect from a P2P application, when you turn off the user interface, in the background the network transferring daemon still keeps running (visible as a tray icon, where you can stop it). Very tricky for people that don’t know what’s happening and suddenly see their upload or download limits have been reached…
