Japanese Layout Taskforce meeting in Tokyo

Last week I’ve been in Tokyo for a W3C meeting of the Japanse Layout Taskforce. This Taskforce should help several W3C Working Groups, such as the XSL Working Group that I’m a member of, better understand Japanese Layout Requirements, so that this can be taken into account when we’re developing XSL-FO 2.0.

I also had the opportunity to see the city again (I’ve been here once before) and I like it even more that last time. I even witnessed a typhoon, but where I was it didn’t seem as spectacular as I expected. I’ve probably seen too many Hollywood action movies…

While enjoying a Mango Frappuchino at a Starbucks (not really Japanese, but it’s my last day here so I start longing for home ). I had a great view on Shibuya crossing, so I took some pictures.

Every 60 seconds, hundreds people cross the street there. Luckily they all use the train, imagine how the crossing would look if they all use a car.

This also gives a very good idea on how Tokyo ‘feels’. Very busy, many people, always, everywhere. It was a good and interesting stay, but as always, I’ll be happy to be home again.
